WhatsApp’s Search the web Verifies and helps To Fight Misinformation
WhatsApp provides a special forwarded label to messages shared in chats that have been forwarded many times. These two arrows
help people know when they’ve received a message that was not written by a close contact. Any message that has been forwarded across at least five times will have a magnifying glass icon on the side that will let users directly search the web to check the authenticity of the claim.
Tap on it to search for the message’s contents online. This will lead the user to news results or other kinds of information related to the message.This will help WhatsApp users combat misinformation by verifying facts from credible links on the web.
The new option is titled ‘Search Web’ and is already made available in Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, UK, and the US. Users who have updated to the latest version of WhatsApp on Android, iOS and WhatsApp Web will able to spot the feature.
